Where is the Van Gogh Museum ?
The permanent exhibition of Van Gogh works are on display in this building.

The Kurokawa wing, designed by
Kisho Kurokawa, opened in 1999 and is used for temporary exhibitions.

The main and permanent exhibition is set up in chronological order and reflects the 5 different periodes of his life as an artist.
Vincent van Gogh made many self-portraits. As he didn't make any money as an artist (he sold only one painting during his life) he couldn't always afford to pay a model to pose for him, forcing him to paint self-portraits.

As a birthday present for his mother, he made '
Self-Portrait without Beard' in 1889. In 1998, the painting was sold for $ 71,5 million and is now in a private collection.
The Van Gogh Museum houses a collection of more than 200 paintings, 700 letters and 500 drawings by Vincent Van Gogh.

This collection of Van Gogh paintings is the largest in the world. More than 1,5 million people visit the museum each year.

The main building of the museum, the Rietveld Building, designed by Dutch architect
Gerrit Rietveld, opened its doors to the public in 1973.
